What’s the weather going to be like in Fuerteventura in…?

Looking at social media one of the most common posts is people asking “What’s the weather going to be like in Fuerteventura in…?” insert your own time, Christmas, August, Easter etc…

This question often attracts some derisory comments, which is a bit unfair as people coming here for the first time, or at a particular time of year, want to know what to expect and what they need to pack.  So let’s see if we can answer all the questions here before they are asked.

Where Is Fuerteventura?

Fuerteventura is a Sub Tropical island at 28° North, it is situated in the Atlantic Ocean about 100 kilometres (60miles) off the west coast of Morocco (North Africa), as a result it enjoys a very pleasant climate.

Fuerteventura’s weather

Fuerteventura’s climate is affected by our close proximity to Africa and the Sahara and is basically a desert climate. However temperatures are kept down as a result of the Trade Winds and being surrounded by the sea.  This makes it an ideal all year round holiday destination, not too hot in the summer and pleasantly warm in the winter.

Will I need a cardigan in the evenigs?

From the end of October through to the beginning of April, this is our winter season and the evenings can be cool and particularly chilly when the wind is blowing. So if you pack for a typical British summer, with a lot less rain you should be OK for every eventuality.

Sunshine

People come to Fuerteventura for the beautiful beaches and the clear blue sea, but how much beach time can you expect?

Average daily Sunshine

You can see from the above figures that Fuerteventura is an ideal holiday destination,  not too hot in the summer and still warm in the winter. However there can some very hot days (30°+), equally you can get decidedly chilly days in the winter. Overall you will be extremely unlucky to have more than a day or two of bad weather.

Is the sea warm?

Lastly we have the sea temperature. This is an average temperature and can vary widely depending on which beach you are using, whether the tide is in or out, whether the sea is calm or rough or if there have been any recent storms.

I hope this information will help you decide what to pack, personally I like to travel light. Travel dressed for the worst  conditions, and pack for the beach and for warm evenings sitting at a seaside bistro sipping wine.
